Talk on Good Scientific Practice
Good Scientific Practice - Research Integrity and its Current Challenges
Institutional codes of conduct and the national Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Research Practice oblige scientists in Germany to conduct research according to the state of the art. But what does that actually mean in practice? What does respecting good research practice (GRP) encompass in the daily work of scientists?
This talk introduces the concept of good research practice and distinguishes it from research misconduct and questionable research practices. It also addresses current challenges in research integrity, from the assignment of authorship to the use of artificial intelligence. In addition, practical recommendations will be provided for conducting research with integrity, along with guidance on where to seek advice when questions related to GRP arise.
About Nele Reeg
Dr. Nele Reeg, with a background in life sciences, has been working as a researcher in the project “Discussion Hubs to Foster Research Integrity” at the Ombuds Committee for Research Integrity in Germany since 2020, focusing on handling authorship conflicts. She translates theoretical knowledge on research integrity into practical recommendations — for example, by developing guiding documents supplementary to the DFG Code of Conduct and by giving workshops for ombudspersons and researchers.
